Specifically designed for direct burial in soil where heavy pressure, moisture, or rodent damage is expected. Widely used in cross-country backbone networks.

Component Material/Properties Details
Optical Fiber High-purity Silica Glass Single-mode (e.g., G.652D) or Multi-mode.
Core count typically ranges from 2 to 144 cores (or higher).
Central Strength Member Phosphatized Steel Wire (or FRP) Located at the center of the cable core. Provides high tensile strength. (PE cushion added for larger core counts).
Loose Tube PBT (Polybutylene Terephthalate) Stranded around the central strength member. Tubes are filled with water-blocking thixotropic jelly.
Inner Moisture Barrier APL (Aluminum-Polyethylene Laminate) Longitudinally applied over the cable core to provide an excellent moisture and water barrier.
Inner Jacket MDPE (Medium-Density Polyethylene) Extruded over the APL layer to provide structural stability and the first layer of mechanical protection.
Outer Armor PSP (Corrugated Steel Tape) Longitudinally applied over the inner jacket. Provides maximum crush resistance, impact resistance, and is highly effective at preventing rodent damage.
Outer Jacket HDPE or MDPE Black, UV-resistant, and tough outer layer protecting against extreme outdoor and subterranean environments.
